My favourite tarot decks are always the ones that come in a solid, well made box with the slide off lid, so as soon as I opened the brown packaging and saw the box that Tarot Grand Luxe was in, I was happy. Those boxes with the flap that has to be tucked inside are just not good enough to keep a nice tarot deck clean, tidy and damage free.
Inside the box, there is a guide book in English (and no other language) which isn’t too thick and doesn’t go into loads of detail. It gives just enough information to understand the deck.
The cards themselves have a matt finish. To me the artwork is gorgeous but I do have a thing about different takes on tarot cards and this certainly fits the bill for me. I know I often say I love the artwork on the tarot decks I review, but as I tend to buy the decks that are pleasing to my eye, I guess I am mostly going to be happy with the illustrations. You can be sure if I am not, I will say so! Have a look at the images I have put below and see what you think. It’s hard not to like them!
As you can see, the imagery is quite beautiful. Of the three above I would struggle to choose one I liked best. The two of cups shows two glass and gold embossed glasses on the seashore by a calm sea, it appears to be at sunset. There are two hands coming from the glasses and they are clasped together. This card is showing partnership, attraction, new romance.
The three of cups depicting celebration, reunion, having a good time, enjoying being with friends. What a stunning card. The six of cups tends to have a foot in the past and can be about childhood memories. This is depicted in the image above. Honestly, I can’t help but feel joy looking at these beautiful cards.
The six of cups shows a carefree young girl swinging from a tree surrounded by her childhood toys (memories). This card definitely has a foot in the past. It can mean someone from the past is about to make an appearance. It certainly means that past experiences have been good whether in childhood, teenage years or recent past.
I just wanted to share the beautiful image of the Empress (above). Yes I know I’m overusing ‘beautiful’.. I’m not apologising! This has got to be my favourite Empress card from any deck (and it has some strong rivals!). I just adore the way that the Empress is growing from the roots of the tree, surrounded by nature. If I could have this card enlarged and framed on my wall, I would. Absolutely stunning.
The pentacles cards become coins cards in this deck. The different names are often interchanged in some decks. Above we have the five of coins, the art work again is lovely with the coins shown in the foreground and a stained glass window with sunlight streaming through. On the face of it, it like a good card with a hand held out either throwing the coins in the air or trying to catch them, but generally this card is not great. It can mean hardships.
I won’t go into too much detail of the meaning of the cards as I plan to do a blog about every card over time. Be patient! It will happen!
The seven of coins shows a woman holding a small basket. She looks like she is working in a field, picking fruit, veg maybe? There is a larger basket full of coins. The card represents unfinished projects, hard work, perseverance. Things will pay off in the long run but it won’t be an easy road.
Thank goodness for the Page of Pentacles! Shown holding a coin, dressed regally in green and gold, he’s stood in a field or forest full of flowers depicting growth. The page of coins is bringing good news, as do all of the pages in the tarot deck. I love it when this one comes up in a reading!
This is my first deck by Ciro Marchetti, but there are others I plan on buying, I particularly like the look of the Tarot of Dreams deck, so that’s my next purchase! I read some reviews before buying the Tarot Grand Luxe deck and some of them suggested that this deck is very similar to other decks Ciro has done, but as I do not have others (yet), my initial opinion is that it is beautifully illustrated and certainly one for the collector. I will be interested to see how I feel about his other stuff but on the basis of this deck, I honestly can’t wait to purchase another!
